Summer Vacation??

Some people go on vacations during the months of summer. This is a foreign concept to me because as a Realtor for 30 odd years, summer was the peak of my working season. Oh, and Christmas Eve, don’t ask me why but rather than baking cookies on Christmas Eve I was working.

There is a point to my ramble, I will be flying off to Kentucky next week to find a replacement property for the rental I just sold. That trip will be my ‘summer vacation’. Aint I just a ball of fun?? To be totally honest (bet you never heard that from a Realtor before :), I am looking forward to getting back to a place that has Rain! I have been watching our water situation here in Northern California and doing my part to conserve to the best of my abilities. I say that because I cannot just let my trees die. I give them water from my showers (even hubby collects shower water) and I water on the two days a week we are allowed to water for ten minutes, any and all landscape. I am sure you have seen the wildfires on the news, so you can see the water needed to stop them is a concern.

I am a little hesitant to leave just now. If you watch the national news those horrible flames you see running like a wild creature up the bone-dry hills are only a few miles from my home. The air is filled with smoke and sometimes even bits of ash. Summer vacation here in Norther California is a gamble that the fires will not make it to your home while you are gone. Yup, ball of fun!

So I will stop here and cross my fingers or something. Oh, wanted to say Hi to a lovely redhead. Did you know that red hair does not turn gray? When you are my age you will be a strawberry blonde. Yes, I am jealous, xx  Write On Darlings!!

Waiting Is Hard

I tend to whine a bit. I know this and do my best to twist a whine into a positive statement. It can be trying and I so dislike whining people that I strive Not to be one.

I know you are waiting for the But part of this post. Well, there really isn’t one. We are awaiting the close of escrow on our rental property here in California. It is a trying period but after over thirty years of working in the Real Estate Industry, I am somewhat used to it. It just takes a daily touch to check up on the situation. We have keys and garage door opener to drop off and I have not heard about the shelves in the garage. I am hoping they would like the extra storage. Heaven knows I have no place for that stuff.

I am also waiting for my editor. It has been a few months of waiting for me. I could not extend our budget to cover further editing of LIGHTED WINDOWS, so I had to wait for my yearly annuity to come in before I could send more chapters to Dearest John. Yes I know, his name is John Hudspith but he has been an absolute dear to me so I cannot think of him as any one but ‘Dearest John’.

The next thing for me will be to fly back to Kentucky and try to pick a replacement property. In the world of IRS, a 1031 tax exchange requires a replacement property and we must also replace the debt, so we will be applying for a loan. It has been so long since I was back in the land of water and trees, I don’t know even where to begin. I believe I’ll simply go and when I hit the ground I will commence doing as the all mighty IRS requires and hope the wait is not too long, because, well, waiting is hard.

On Writing and Platform Building

I’m still a bit giggled that my editor, John Hudspith, returned my last three chapters as “spot-on”. Generally, his emails contain requests for re-writes, fixing of POV and other newbie oopses. So it was a rather big surprise to me this week when I sat down to write in the afternoon, as I am want to do and hit a Wall. I’ve never hit a wall before. It actually hurts. How can I not be able to write?? These are all stories I’ve written on paper (outlines anyway) and complete open, middle and close, written in my head for years. Yes, actually putting these books in the computer is more of a challenge than I had first thought, but still, LIGHTED WINDOWS, the first book, is complete. Therefore, the next couple of books ought to come together with continued effort on my part, right?

It was a necessary event I am sure and I will now remain utterly silent when writers complain about ‘writer’s block’. I did the only thing I could think to do since just staring at the words already written was not having the usual effect, I read one of Anne R. Allen’s blog entries. Do you believe in fate, Angels, divine providence or any such thing? Well, call it what you may, Anne’s blog post that I pulled up at random was about the care and feeding of your Muse. OMG! It is a wonderful piece and I want so much to give you a link, but I’ve no clue how to do that. Lacking a link, look for Anne R. Allen’s Blog at and this particular piece is “11 Tips for The Care and Feeding of Your Muse: A Writer’s Guide (posted June 28th). Whether you write or just read this piece is well worth your time. For me, it was a lightning strike and I have been writing ever since, Thank you dearest Anne and Ruth (her co-author).

I did some work on my “Author’s Platform” or at least I am making the effort. I am now tweeting about two to three times a week. I discovered an obscene post on my Twitter feed, deleted it and blocked the dope who put it there. Fair warning, there are twits and other very bad people on Twitter so watch your feed. I can only pray none of my followers was offended enough to dump me and the excuse that I’m not savvy is not acceptable.

I have Facebook and work that one regularly, but now there is a new one call Tsu. I have not tried it yet but am told it is ‘the thing’ so it is on the list. I am blogging, hence this drivel and now all I need is a completely edited version of LIGHTED WINDOWS to have something to sell on a website. I know I should already have a website but without a book to sell, the costs seem unnecessary. But I am new at all this so what the heck do I know.

Sorry, my darlings, this has been a little scattered, my nose is still smarting from that Wall. I am, happily, back at my next two books and waiting for a cash infusion to send the next six chapters off to my wonderful editor. In case you have not read a lot of my blogging, I am paying to have LIGHTED WINDOWS professionally edited because there is so much yucky junkon Amazon and I do not wish to be one of “those” authors. I have come to completely accept you Cannot edit your own work and I will not publish LIGHTED WINDOWS until John Hudspith says it is acceptable. Notice I did not say good. First novels tend to be okay so I am hoping, barring any further Walls, my next two will actually be good.Miscellaneous 217
